It was a successful Week 1 for both Rutgers and Syracuse. Now, the two teams will meet on Saturday at 2 P.M. at the Carrier Dome.
Rutgers opened up with a 61-14 victory over Temple while Syracuse was victorious on the road against Ohio, 29-9. Heading into Week 2, the Scarlet Knights will be a slight two-point favorite on the road against the Orange. Rutgers is -130 on the money line and the total is set at 51.5.
Both teams were able to cover convincingly in Week 1. This was a trend last season for the Orange. They finished just 1-10 but were 6-5 ATS. In Week 1 against Ohio, the Orange were able to get it done on the ground rushing for 293 yards. This will be a test for a Rutgers’ defense that forced five Owl turnovers on Saturday.
Rutgers put up 61 points in Week 1 so the game clearly went over. Chances are that if the Scarlet Knights score 60 points, it will be an over and they will cover. They also got it done on the ground with 220 rush yards.
Syracuse was strong on the defensive side of the ball against Ohio. They allowed just nine points and this led to the game going under. In 2020, six games went over for the Orange despite their inability to score the ball. Something will have to give in Week 2 against the Scarlet Knights.
A non-conference matchup between 1-0 teams is something to look forward too. The Scarlet Knights will have their first road test with fans with Greg Schiano back on the sidelines and they will do it as favorites. A 2-0 start to the 2021 campaign is exactly what the Scarlet Knights need to continue to improve the situation moving forward.
