Remember Kyle Flood?
You know, the guy who picked up the clipboard and whistle when Schiano 1.0 left for Tampa Bay? The guy who led us to the Quick Lane Bowl victory over North Carolina?
The guy who started the "We just want to go 1-0 this week" thing? Yeah, I see you rolling your eyes. That guy!
It was a simple phrase, one meant to say the team is focusing on this week's opponent and only this week's opponent. "This week, the most important thing is the opportunity to be 1-0."
And he said it over and over and over and over....okay, you got it.
Well, now it's Penn State's James Franklin who is using the Flood mantra. He used to tweet out the opponent's name a bunch of times. Like "Wisconsin, Wisconsin, Wisconsin, Wisconsin, Wisconsin, Wisconsin. Wisconsin" to indicate that was all that the team was thinking about.
This week, though, he changed it up, tweeting "1-0, 1-0, 1-0, 1-0, 1-0, 1-0, 1-0, 1-0,". Now, I'd show you the tweet except James Franklin apparently didn't like something I wrote a while back....and he blocked me. But you see it in the Dustin Schutte article.
But think about that. James Franklin, "Coach Hype", is using a Kyle Flood schtick to motivate his team. And before anyone snickers/giggles/guffaws/snorts about that, consider this: Kyle Flood won a national championship while coaching for Nick Saban at Alabama and is now the offensive line coach and offensive coordinator under Steve Sarkisian at Texas. Heading to the SEC.
Yeah, that Kyle Flood.
