Paul Mulcahy to play for USA East Coast Basketball on Spain tour

The guard’s development is critical for Rutgers to be successful next season.

COLLEGE BASKETBALL: JAN 15 Wisconsin at Rutgers

Rutgers men’s basketball guard Paul Mulcahy will play for legendary head coach Larry Brown in an upcoming three game tour of Spain for East Coast Basketball. The news was first reported on Friday morning by Adam Zagoria.

USA East Coast Basketball brings a group annually overseas to compete and will take three separate teams this summer. The other two teams will be coached by Syracuse head coach Jim Boeheim and South Carolina head coach Frank Martin. Games will take place in Valencia and Barcelona against opponents from France and Spain in early August.

Mulcahy will play for the Red Team coached by Brown and the roster includes Buddy and Jimmy Boeheim from Syracuse, Dajuan Harris Jr. from Kansas, Joey Baker from Duke, Patrick McCaffery from Iowa and Alyn Breed from Providence.

In Mulcahy’s second season at Rutgers, the 6’6” guard averaged 5.9 points, 3.3 rebounds and 2.9 assists in helping the program earn its first NCAA Tournament bid in 30 years and first victory in 38 years.

His development for next season will be critical to Rutgers making a second consecutive appearance at the big dance for the first time in over four decades. The upcoming experience with East Coast Basketball is a great opportunity for him to grow his game before rejoining his teammates on the banks later this summer.

Two years ago, Mulcahy had just joined Rutgers when the program went on a four game tour of Spain. He averaged 0.8 points, 3.3 assists, 2.8 rebounds and 0.8 steals in 15:08 minutes per game.
