We are back with episode No. 97 of the On The Banks podcast to continue the journey with the Rutgers men’s lacrosse team following an impressive 12-5 victory in the first round of the NCAA Tournament over No. 8 seed Lehigh. The Scarlet Knights will now face No. 1 seed North Carolina on Saturday, May 22 at 2:30 p.m. ET in at Hofstra University in the Quarterfinals. It will air live on ESPNU.
To get insight on the first NCAA Tournament win in 31 years for the program, as well as the challenge ahead for RU against the top team in the country, we spoke once again with head coach Brian Brecht. The Big Ten Coach of the Year has the Scarlet Knights one win away from the program’s first ever Final Four appearance. He spoke about the many standout performances against Lehigh and what his team needs to do to pull the upset of the Tarheels.
We also spoke with Big Ten Specialist of the Year and All-American goalkeeper Colin Kirst. The senior transfer from Lehigh made 17 saves in a brilliant performance last weekend, becoming the first RU goalkeeper to advance in the NCAA Tournament since his late father Kyle. We spoke about what his return to Rutgers has meant to his family and much more.
Thanks to coach Brecht and Colin for taking time during their busy schedules to speak with us ahead of the program’s biggest game in decades. Enjoy the episode and thanks for listening.
