Wimsatt is the top-ranked player in Kentucky, according to 247Sports. He is ranked No. 89 overall and No. 3 dual-threat quarterback nationally in the 2022 class. Wimsatt chose the Scarlet Knights over the likes of Kentucky, Notre Dame, Oregon, Michigan, Michigan State, Georgia Tech, Ole Miss and West Virginia.
Wimsatt is the highest-ranked quarterback recruit in the history of the Rutgers’ program. In recent weeks, it seemed to be down to Rutgers or Kentucky for Wimsatt. Ultimately, the Scarlet Knights won the sweepstakes.
The dual-threat abilities of Wimsatt seem like a good fit for what Sean Gleeson and the Scarlet Knights like to do offensively. This commitment might be able to steady a quarterback position that has struggled to find consistency over the years.
With the commitment of Wimsatt, Rutgers now has landed four verbals from four-star players. Wimsatt joins Anthony Johnson, Amarion Brown, and Samuel Brown.
There will be no shortage of weapons for Wimsatt. Rutgers has added commitments from wide receivers JoJo Bermudez and Rashad Rochelle, along with Brown.
The offensive line landed commits from Taj White, Nelson Monegro, Joe De Croce, and Kwabena Asamoah. Defensively, Kenny Fletcher and Anthony Johnson have verbally agreed to join the Scarlet Knights.
Rutgers now has the sixth highest ranked recruiting class for the 2022 cycle and second highest in the Big Ten, according to 247Sports.
Wimsatt is the 11th commit in the class for RU to this point with an average prospect rating of .8809. Watch his junior season highlights here.
