This team did it. We will remember them forever. They won.
Four thoughts.
Survive and Advance: Like every single Rutgers game ever, it is never easy. But how perfect was that last Rutgers possession? Geo Baker gets the insurance bucket off a missed shot. Or off a deflection. I don’t really know. I need to see the highlights because I’m on cloud 9. The kid who bought in did exactly what Steve Pikiell preaches, pulls down the offensive board or was in the right place at the right time and puts it in for a lay-up. Oh man. Let’s go.
A Huge Effort: Everyone on this team chipped in. Jacob Young was a missile, just unbelievable, Getting baskets after baskets. Caleb McConnell was a beast off the bench. Ron Harper Jr. had a poster dunk. Okay, I’m just trying to breathe right now because this is awesome. Rutgers executed the game plan and everyone on the team did what they were supposed to.
Rebounding: Rutgers wins when they rebound. The Scarlet Knights out boarded the Clemson Tigers 41 to 32. That was the game right there. They never allowed Clemson to get second chances to score. That one and done was able to keep their opponents at bay and for Rutgers to make 14 baskets. It wasn’t pretty, but it’s a win and the boards were key.
Move On: It’s not over yet. I’m sorry, I am amped right now. My phone is going crazy. But Rutgers has another game on Sunday against the 2 seed Houston team. Jacob Young against his dad’s alma mater. Can you believe it? Wow.
