Rutgers is dancing once again.

The Scarlet Knights were selected to their second-straight tournament as the No. 6 seed in the Mercado Region. They will face No. 11 BYU on Monday at noon on ESPNU.

BYU finished the season with a record of 18-5 and 13-3 in the West Coast Conference. They made a run to the finals of the conference tournament before being taken down by Gonzaga.

The winner of this first-round matchup will take on the winner of No. 3 Arizona and No. 14 Stony Brook.

The Scarlet Knights will enter the tournament as winners in nine of their last 10 games. They led the Big Ten in opponent’s point per game allowing just 57.1 per game. Rutgers finished the season at 14-4 and 10-3 in the Big Ten, which was good for third in the conference.

The pandemic obviously cut last season short so there was no NCAA Tournament. That means this appearance is the second-straight for the Scarlet Knights. In 2019, they entered as a seven-seed and suffered a first-round loss to No. 10 Buffalo.

This time around, Rutgers has the makings of a second-weekend team. Coverage will continue leading up to tipoff on Monday.
