Rutgers field hockey is set to appear in the program’s first ever Big Ten title game on its home field. The Scarlet Knights have already made history in multiple ways this season. They have a program record 17 wins, 11 wins against ranked foes, 7 ranked road wins, 6 Big Ten regular season wins, a best ever second place finish in the Big Ten, and the first two Big Ten Tournament wins ever. Even more history can be made with a win on Sunday.

Michigan is the fourth seed and defeated No. 1 Iowa on Friday 3-2, knocking off the top team in the nation. The Wolverines are ranked second nationally in the latest coaches poll as well as second in the latest RPI rankings. They handed RU one of its three losses this season with a 3-0 victory in Ann Arbor just 16 days ago. Michigan outshoot the Scarlet Knights 14-3, including 12-2 on goal. Co-Big Ten Player of the Year Gianna Glatz made nine saves in the net for RU, but it wasn’t enough as Abby Tamer, Anouk Veen, and Kathryn Peterson. UM also held a 4-0 advantage in penalty corners.

Despite the result in the first meeting, Rutgers has a lot of momentum entering this rematch. They’ve won five straight games since that loss and will play in front of their home fans for the third time in four days during the Big Ten Tournament. Support for this team has reached a fever pitch as many other Rutgers programs, including men’s lacrosse, have been very vocal this week during their games.

RU is currently No. 1 in the latest RPI rankings, the No. 2 seed in the Big Ten Tournament and No. 3 nationally in the latest coaches poll. A win on Sunday would could result in the Scarlet Knights earning the top seed in the NCAA Tournament. The Selection Show for the 18 team field takes place on Sunday night at 10:00 p.m. ET and will air live on NCAA.com.

Rutgers women’s soccer enters the Big Ten Championship game on a program record 13 game winning streak and a perfect 12-0-0 record against Big Ten foes this season. An undefeated regular season record captured the school and porgram’s first Big Ten title of any kind. They have recorded five consecutive shutouts and have 11 clean sheets on the season. The Scarlet Knights are 6th in the country with a 2.89 goals per game average and 18th nationally in allowing just 0.632 goals per game.

Michigan has won six of seven games since losing to Rutgers 4-1 at Yurcak Field on October 6. They knocked off No. 2 seed Purdue in the Big Ten semifinals by the same 4-1 score. The Wolverines are third in scoring and fifth in goals allowed per game in the Big Ten this season.

The Scarlet Knights are the top seed in the Big Ten Tournament, are No. 2 in the current RPI rankings and No. 4 in the latest coaches poll. A win on Sunday could earn Rutgers the top seed in the NCAA Tournament or at worst, likely set home games through the first four rounds if they are able to advance that far. Crowds have been in excess of 1,000 during the postseason and many of the athletic department’s other teams have supported women’s soccer in its quest for the program’s first ever Big Ten Tournament title.

The NCAA Tournament Selection Show for the 64 team field will air live on November 8 at 4:30 p.m ET on NCAA.com,
