The 2022 recruiting class for Rutgers holds one less commitment on Tuesday morning as cornerback Davison Igbinosun announced on Twitter that he was reopening his recruitment.

Last week, Igbinosun was elevated to a 4-star rating by 247 Sports, although he still is listed as a 3-star prospect in their composite rankings that consist of several recruiting services.

His reopening of his recruitment also comes three days after Rutgers lost to Ohio State 52-13 in what was the worst loss of Greg Schiano’s second tenure on the banks. Igbinosun’s brother, Desmond, made his debut for the Scarlet Knights in his first season with the program.

The Union high school star scored three touchdowns last weekend in a victory over rival Elizabeth as he rushed for a score, caught another and went the distance with on a punt return as well.

247 Sports lists him as the no. 3 recruit in New Jersey. In regard his player rating of 0.8843 from 247 Sports, Igbinosun was the sixth highest rated commit in the 2022 recruiting class for Rutgers. Cedar Creek standout and 3-star recruit JoJo Bermudez was the first prospect from the 2022 class to decommit.

The important thing to remember is that Igbinosun has not ruled out ultimately choosing Rutgers and expect Greg Schiano, Fran Brown and the rest of the staff to continue to recruit him hard the rest of the cycle. With an elevated star rating and now being able to take official visits after not being able to last year, it seems natural that a recruit in his situation would decide to explore his options before signing day approaches.

Per 247 Sports, Igbinosun holds offers from Notre Dame, Ole Miss, Cincinnati, Indiana, Pitt, Boston College, Duke, Wake Forest, Tennessee and Virginia among others in addition to Rutgers.

It’s also far from panic time from a fan perspective with the 2022 recruiting class. 247 Sports still has Rutgers ranked 19th nationally and 5th in the Big Ten with Igbinosun no longer part of the class. One note is they still do include 4-star QB Gavin Wimsatt, who surprisingly enrolled at RU last month.
