Welcome to episode no. 88 of the On The Banks podcast. I am joined by a regular guest of the show to talk about the current state of Rutgers basketball, Jerry Carino. The longtime sports writer and news columnist with the Asbury Park Press and Gannett New Jersey has covered college hoops in the garden state for almost two decades.
Rutgers is coming off a much needed victory over Indiana this past weekend and is set for a rematch against Michigan State Thursday night at the RAC. After an embarrassing loss in East Lansing earlier this month, a Scarlet Knights victory at the RAC would do wonders for this team’s confidence as well as provide a boost in the Big Ten standings.
In this episode, Jerry and I cover a variety of topics that include include an assessment of Rutgers in the first half of Big Ten play, what to expect in the second half of the conference slate, the changing of roles including Montez Mathis, the learning curve for Steve Pikiell managing expectations this season, the concern with conference tournaments, how Rutgers will finish out the regular season and much more.
In addition, I review which Olympic sports programs at Rutgers are either underway or close to beginning their respective seasons.
Thanks to Jerry for taking the time to give such great insight on this episode and you can follow him on Twitter at @NJHoopsHaven. Thanks so much for listening and be well.
