On The Banks Podcast Episode no. 66 featuring Ken Pomeroy

Host Lance Glinn spoke with the creator of the advanced statistics site KenPom about the breakout season for Rutgers men’s basketball.

NCAA Basketball: Rutgers at Pittsburgh Charles LeClaire-USA TODAY Sports

Welcome to episode no. 66 of the On The Banks Podcast, as host Lance Glinn is joined by Ken Pomeroy, the creator of the advanced statistics website KenPom. His work has changed college basketball in regard to the importance analytics has on the game today. The impact includes how coaches utilize his data, as well as how gambling lines are set by sports books and even the weight placed on his rankings by the NCAA Tournament selection committee.

The Rutgers men’s basketball team earned its highest ever KenPom ranking this past season after a program low right before the Steve Pikiell era began four years ago. It seemed like a perfect time to speak with Pomeroy about the rise of the program and how it measured up historically from an analytical perspective.

Topics discussed on the episode include the how Pomeroy’s career and the site KenPom began, if the improvement in the rankings that Rutgers has made under Pikiell is unprecedented, the impact that playing a poorly rated non-conference schedule has on the program’s ranking and much more.

Thanks to Ken Pomeroy for taking the time to give such great insight and enjoy the episode.
