The 2021 recruiting class added another talented recruit on Friday, as 3-star defensive prospect Keshon Griffin verbally committed to the program.

The 6’4”, 230 pound talent plays multiple positions for St. Joseph’s in Hammonton, New Jersey. His team went 9-2 last season and he led the defense with 4 sacks, 3 forced fumbles and 3 fumble recoveries. He added an interception and 24 tackles overall. Griffin also had 9 receptions for 161 yards and 2 touchdowns as a tight end, but his strengths lie on the defensive side of the ball.
247 Sports composite rankings list Griffin as the 8th best prospect in New Jersey and 26th best weakside defensive end in the nation, as well as the 443rd top recruit overall in the 2021 class. He holds almost a dozen power five offers including Nebraska, Miami, Tennessee, Virginia Tech, and West Virginia. He ultimately chose Rutgers, as assistants Fran Brown and Jim Panagos led Griffin’s recruitment.
Adding Griffin one day after Khayri Banton, the top linebacker in the state, also committed, gives head coach Greg Schiano two of the best defensive prospects in New Jersey in the 2021 class. Griffin is a tremendous athlete, as NJ Advance Media’s Todderick Hunt wrote previously that he ran a 10.8-second 100-meter dash in middle school and can also dead lift 550 pounds. Hunt added in his commitment article that Griffin could end up at outside linebacker or somewhere along the defensive line at Rutgers. His speed and power make him a special prospect. Wherever he ends up on the defense, he has major upside that the coaching staff can work with to mold into an impact player on the banks.

The 2021 recruiting class for Rutgers is now ranked 12th nationally and 5th in the Big Ten per 247 Sports. You can read more about other recruits that Schiano and his staff are targeting here.
