The accolades thrown at Steve Pikiell finally became official and ended with an award.
Steve Pikiell had a ridiculously awesome season here at Rutgers. In just four years, he took one of the worst programs in Division I history into a team that won 20 games and finished over .500 in Big Ten play.
While Pikiell was shortlisted for national coach of the year and getting a vote in the AP Coach of the Year Award, winning the Jim Phelan Award is a nice feather in Pikiell’s cap. The work here isn’t done yet.
March 29th is the next big date for Pikiell, as it looms large in the recruitment of top target Cliff Omoruyi. The priority target will make his decision that day and is down to three schools: Rutgers, Arizona State and Auburn.
But let’s slow our roll and enjoy what Pikiell has done so far. It was a fun season and the fun is only just beginning.
Congrats, Pike! Well deserved.
