The 6’1” junior chose Rutgers over reported offers from Tennessee and Syracuse, among others. 247 Sports Composite rankings list Loyal as the 24th best prospect in the 2021 class in New Jersey. Recruiting analyst Todderick Hunt of NJ Advance Media cited his “elite frame and athletic ability”. Secondary coach Fran Brown was the lead recruiter for Loyal.
Keeping local talent home has been a priority for head coach Greg Schiano and getting several top commitments this early in the 2021 recruiting cycle is a very positive sign.
Rutgers now has five 3-star prospects committed for the 2021 recruiting class and four are ranked in the top 24 in New Jersey. Athlete Al-Shadee Salaam committed on Wednesday night. All had multiple offers from other power five programs. 247 Sports currently ranks Rutgers’ 2021 class as 18th best in the nation and 6th in the Big Ten. For a program in desperate need for a talent infusion, things are off to a solid start in Schiano’s first true recruiting cycle back on the banks.
