The time has come. After 10.5 months since Greg Schiano returned to Rutgers as head coach, the wait is finally over. The Scarlet Knights open the shortened 2020 campaign at Michigan State on Saturday at noon ET on BTN.
While the long term hope is that Schiano not only restores pride and credibility for Rutgers, but also makes winning seasons and bowl appearances a priority once again. However, he inherits a program that currently holds a 21 game Big Ten losing streak and faces a schedule with only conference opponents this fall. Year one requires patience from the fan base normally, but due to the limited offseason due to the global pandemic COVID-19, that is even more the case this season.
With that being said, it figures to be an unpredictable season across the Big Ten. Schiano has hired arguably the best coaching staff in school history, several transfers from other Big Ten schools are set to make an impact and a new look spread offense has been installed by offensive coordinator Sean Gleeson.
