Keith Sargeant and James Kratch of NJ Advance Media reported on Wednesday that the Rutgers baseball team has stopped team workouts due to six players testing positive for COVID-19. Per Sargeant’s report, “The baseball team is expected to be sidelined for at least a week, according to one of the individuals. A Rutgers athletics spokesman declined comment on the matter.”
This is the second time that a Rutgers team has stopped workouts due to having players test positive for COVID-19. The football program announced on July 25 that six players tested positive and stopped workouts to quarantine the entire program. It was later reported that 28 players and multiple staff members tested positive during that time.
In addition, Rutgers announced in early September that four athletes in three different sports and one staff member tested positive for COVID-19.
