Rutgers finds itself in a familiar role ahead of Saturday’s showdown against former Big East foe Boston College: underdogs. The visiting Eagles open as 7.5 point favorites for the noon game that will be shown live on BTN.
The Scarlet Knights are 1-1 and are coming off a bye week, while Boston College is 2-1 but were embarrassed at home last Friday against Kansas, losing 48-24.
Boston College leads the all-time series 19-6-1, having gone 12-0-1 in the last 13 meetings against Rutgers between the former Big East foes. The Scarlet Knights did win the inaugural game of the Big East conference in 1991, defeating BC 20-13 in old Rutgers Stadium. This will be the first meeting between the two schools since 2004.
Both teams should be motivated to get back in the win column and notch a non-conference victory against a power five opponent. BC has 17 players on the roster from New Jersey, including four starters, led by senior quarterback Anthony Brown. On the Rutgers side, it’s fair to call this the biggest game in head coach Chris Ash’s four seasons at the helm.
We’ll have plenty more this week in previewing this crucial matchup ahead of Saturday’s kickoff.
