The Rutgers women’s soccer team improved to 2-0 on the young season with a resounding 5-0 victory over Fordham on Sunday afternoon at Yurcak Field. They opened the season on Thursday with a come from behind 2-1 OT victory over CCSU.
Nneke Moneme led the way in this win with a hat trick, the first three goal game of her career and first for RU since Jonelle Filigno did it against Fordham eight years ago. Moneme scored her first goal in the 29th minute of the game and the Scarlet Knights took off from there.
Amirah Ali scored a goal on a penalty kick soon after and added two assists on the day, including Moneme’s first goal.
Tiernny Wiltshire scored on an assist from Taylor Aylmer, while Regan Berg registered the first assist of her career.
Goalie Meagan McClelland made 1 save for the 9th shutout of her career.
The Scarlet Knights dominated the action, outshooting the Rams 27-1 and 12-1 with shots on goal.
Rutgers is now 111-20-17 at Yurcak Field since the 2006 season and 55-7-6 in non-conference home games since 2007.
The no. 19th ranked Scarlet Knights next face no. 10 Tennessee this coming Thursday night, August 29th at home. The Vols defeated Fordham 3-1 in their season opener last Thursday.
