Steve Pikiell Fills Out the Rutgers Men’s Basketball Staff with Ben Asher and Mike Larkin

NCAA Basketball: Rutgers at Michigan State Mike Carter-USA TODAY Sports

Though the heavy lifting of the off season had been done when men’s basketball head coach Steve Pikiell promoted Steve Hayn to the final assistant position, there were still some holes to fill after Director of Basketball Operations, Bryan Dougher, followed Jay Young to Fairfield.

Yesterday, Rutgers announced that long time Pikiell right hand man Ben Asher would be promoted to the position Dougher vacated. Asher’s new official title is Director of Basketball Operations and Recruiting. Not only will Asher have a hand in organizing all things basketball, but he’ll also have a hand in the recruiting process—though he’s not an assistant so he can’t be out on the recruiting trail.

Rutgers also added former Division II (St. Michael’s) associate head coach Mike Larkin to the staff as a Special Assistant to the Head Coach, replacing Asher.

“Mike and Ben are both very talented and dedicated individuals who make Rutgers Basketball better,” said Pikiell in a press release sent out by the athletic department. “Ben has worked tirelessly on the behalf of our student-athletes and is integral to both our internal and external efforts. Mike brings a track record of meeting challenges and achieving success at the Division II and III levels. Most important, both are character people committed to a winning culture.”

Now, just a week before a team trip to Spain (which will certainly be covered by your friends at On the Banks), Pikiell has a complete staff raring and ready to go. Congrats, Ben and Mike!

Bring on the hoops!
