Rutgers Men’s Basketball Booster Program, the Court Club, Looks to Kick Off Summer With A BBQ

NCAA Basketball: Rutgers at Indiana Brian Spurlock-USA TODAY Sports

One of the unsung heroes for the Rutgers Men’s Basketball program has been it’s Booster Club, cleverly named the Court Club. This coming year, the Court Club is looking to amp up its activity with the Men’s Basketball program and continue to build its membership.

So, what does the Court Club do, you ask?

Well, let me tell you. The Court Club has been supporting the Men’s Basketball program since 1958, and it is the oldest booster club on campus. 180 members strong, the Court Club looks to support Steve Pikiell’s program in a multitude of ways. For the 2018-19 season, the club is donating twenty-thousand dollars to the basketball team.

And what does that money go toward? Elliott Sacks, the president of the Court Club, was kind enough to send me a list:

  • Professional development opportunities
  • Student Manager support
  • Potentially sending a player overseas (2020-21)
  • Equipment needs
  • NYC Trips

Okay, so there’s the basic info of what the Court Club does, but here comes the really cool part:

On June 20, from 5:30 p.m. - 8:00 p.m., the Court Club is hosting a Summer Solstice Barbecue and Pig Roast at historic Suydam Farm. It is a very exciting event for members! People from the basketball program will be there to mingle and chat with guests. Sacks will present, focusing on this seasons’s fundraising initiative. You can get the lowdown on what to expect from both Rutgers basketball and the Court Club in 2019-2020!

There will be food, of course. Dine with Twin Oaks Caterers, one of Rutgers premier caterers serving all beef hot dogs, all American Burgers, barbecued chicken and sausage, peppers and onions from the Suydam Farm with a wide variety of salads and desserts. You can sip on beer and wine and even try some birch beer.

The event will be graciously hosted by Ryck Suydam—son of Abe Suydam, for whom the Men’s Basketball Locker Room is named. Suydam will be taking guests on a tour of the farm, and talking about its history. And I’m sure he’ll always be willing to talk Rutgers basketball.

This event has a maximum capacity of 100 attendees. Reservations will be accepted strictly on a first come first serve basis, so if you’re interested now’s the time to sign up. You can join the Court Club and register for the event by clicking here. While it’s not required to be a member of the Court Club to attend, it’s $100 for members and $125 for non-members.

As a member of the Court Club, I’ve found the meetings and interactions with players and coaches to be top notch. It’s an easy way to support the program while also learning about the ins and outs of college basketball at the same time.

The Summer Solstice BBQ is such a great way to get involved, meet the coaches, players and help out Rutgers Basketball!

LET’S FILL THE FARM!!
