We are back with episode #38 of our On The Banks podcast as host Lance Glinn speaks with Rutgers softball head coach Kristen Butler. It’s been an exciting turnaround this season in her first year. The Scarlet Knights have already clinched the program’s first Big Ten Tournament berth since 2016.

On Wednesday, the Scarlet Knights won its second consecutive game via an extra innings walk-off home run by freshman catcher Katie Wingert, defeating LIU-Brooklyn (29-16) by 7-5 in 9 innnings. With the victory, they clinched the program’s first winning season since 2015.

Rutgers is now 26-22 this season with a 9-11 record in Big Ten play. They enter the last weekend of the regular season in sixth place in the conference, as last place Michigan State (15-32; 3-16) visits Piscataway.

Lance and Coach Butler discuss the progress made during her first season so far, the buy-in and improvement the team has had, individual standouts, increased expectations the rest of the way and much more.

Thanks to coach Butler for taking the time to speak with us. Thanks for listening and enjoy the show.
