The 2019-2020 college basketball season tips off just over a month from now and on Wednesday the Big Ten held its annual media day in Chicago, Illinois. We recapped Rutgers head coach Steve Pikiell’s address at the podium here. However, there is plenty more to review from today.
Pikiell, Geo Baker and Ron Harper Jr. joined BTN’s Dave Revsine later in the day to discuss the progress made last season and the expectations for this year’s team. You can watch the six minute video here in this tweet. (Note: Shaq Carter attended as well but was not on camera in this segment.)
They return a lot of experience. @CoachPikiell brought @Geo_Baker_1 and @__RHJR to the desk to talk @RutgersMBB with @BTNDaveRevsine at #B1GMediaDay. pic.twitter.com/Uxa83uHUxv

Social media highlighted some of the other interactions taking place during Media Day. Here is BTN doing a segment with Harper Jr. and Baker and the teammates were having fun with each other.

A nice development today was seeing how the national media is starting to take Rutgers basketball seriously and there were several legitimate optimistic takes on the season ahead of the Scarlet Knights.
One of my favorite tweets of the day came from BTN analyst Brent Yarina and I tweeted out my feelings on his proclamation.
Brent gets it. #RHoops https://t.co/4u3ySU4PC3

Brendan Quinn covers Michigan and Michigan State for The Athletic and this tweet got my blood pumping. It’s one thing to have the BTN staffers speak positively about Rutgers, but when writers who cover the conference for other outlets start praising the program, we have officially entered a new day.
I'm buying Rutgers. Pikiell gets em to the NIT this year. LFG.

At the same time, Cameron Drummond, a writer for Inside The Hall covering Indiana, gave a similar sentiment after Pikiell’s media address that Quinn did. We are moving into the Twilight zone here.
Steve Pikiell just gave a sermon on Rutgers and I'm buying in, tbh.

The fact it's only taken him a few years to get Rutgers roughly competitive in the Big Ten Conference is a pretty good testament to what he's built there (in addition to a new practice facility). #B1GMediaDay
Anthony Broome, my colleague at SB Nation’s Michigan site Maize n Brew is buying what Pikiell is selling.
Steve Pikiell could probably sell me oceanfront property in Ohio. Guy sure does know how to market his team and his program.

This was the funniest tweet of the day that included Rutgers, as national college basketball writer Brian Hamilton started dropping Jersey references.
I walk into Big Ten hoops media day and the first thing I hear is Steve Pikiell talking about a freshman from Bayonne.

If he drops a Judicke's Bakery or Lighthouse Diner reference, I'm picking Rutgers for the Final Four.
Here is a tweet from Rutgers communications head Kevin Lorincz as Pikiell was working the room during the open media session.

Another tweet from Jordan Ozer who works with the basketball program along with Kevin showed the media love Harper Jr. was getting.

And lastly, national writer Jeff Goodman made every fan happy and every coach upset by releasing a full list of each Big Ten team’s scrimmage schedule before the season begins.
While we’re at the Big Ten media day, might as well put out the Big Ten secret scrimmage list. pic.twitter.com/reL0EWeb2Q

We have five weeks until the season begins!!!!!!
