Buffalo at Rutgers
Opening point spread (according to VegasInsider): Buffalo -3
I expected this line to open up about Buffalo -2 or -2.5. -3 isn’t far off and this number shouldn’t surprise anybody but I’m sure it will. Buffalo is a very talented football team with 3 legitimate NFL prospects on the team. Rutgers is currently the worst Power Five program in the country.
Buffalo QB Tyree Jackson is a Junior who measures in at 6’7” 245 and he is a future NFL draft pick with a cannon for an arm. He will be using that arm to toss it to possible first round draft pick WR Anthony Johnson against a depleted Rutgers secondary all afternoon long.
The Rutgers offensive line is going to have their hands full once again against Buffalo LB Khalil Hodge, another NFL draft prospect, who will be flying all over the field making plays for the Bulls. It could be yet another long afternoon for Art Sitkowski if he takes back the reigns behind center after being yanked against Kansas last week.
The unfortunate fact of the matter in this game is you have two programs who are heading in polar opposite directions as Rutgers is in shambles after suffering arguably their worst loss in school history while Buffalo is trying to win the MAC title with their talented roster. I can’t imagine there will be much of a home field advantage in this one for the Scarlet Knights as attendance will be putrid following the crushing loss on Saturday versus Kansas.
If I Were a Betting Man:
I’m all over Buffalo in this one. I would hop on Buffalo -3 as soon as possible because I truly feel like Rutgers couldn’t be in a worse position as a program and Buffalo has their sights set on a conference championship and will be fired up to play a Big Ten team. I wouldn’t be shocked if this line crept up as the week went on so all of the value is in the -3 number.
