How To Attend & What To Expect At Rutgers Football Fan Appreciation Day On Saturday

It’s free for all and a team scrimmage will take place

On Saturday, August 18th, Rutgers football hosts it’s annual Fan Appreciation Day. The festivities begin at noon at High Point Solutions Stadium.

It is free for fans to attend and park at the stadium on Saturday. The day includes a team scrimmage, followed by a poster giveaway and autograph session with all of the players and head coach Chris Ash. Concessions and merchandise will be available. For more information, click here.

At last Sunday’s Media Day press conference, Ash was non-committal in terms of what the scrimmage would look like. He said there was a lot of work to be done this week before deciding with the coaching staff about the best way to proceed and evaluate the players in that setting. He also said a few guys had bumps and bruises from the first scrimmage last Saturday, He stressed nothing serious occurred, but a group of close to ten players have had limited practice time this week. That is also typical at this point of training camp, which has been going on for two weeks now.

Ash did emphasize wanting to protect the more established, front line players by limiting their time in future scrimmages. He added it gives the extra benefit of giving younger players greater opportunity to showcase themselves in a scrimmage situation as well.

Regardless of how personnel decisions are made for Saturday’s scrimmage, it is an important one for the quarterbacks. Ash indicated it was possible for a decision to be made after Saturday’s scrimmage about who will start the season opener against Texas State on September 1st. The competition between Gio Rescigno, Artur Sitkowski, and Johnathan Lewis has been ongoing throughout training camp. Having clarity as to who will start with two weeks to prepare before the season begins would be a positive.
