The start of the 2019 Rutgers men’s lacrosse season is less than two months away and on Wednesday Inside Lacrosse released its preseason Top 25 poll here. The Scarlet Knights, who finished last season with a 9-6 record, are ranked 12th in the preseason poll.

The season opens at home on Saturday, February 2nd against Lafayette and Rutgers is scheduled to play ten other teams ranked in Inside Lacrosse’s preseason poll out of fourteen regular season games total. Other Big Ten ranked teams include #3 Maryland, #9 Johns Hopkins, #10 Penn State, #17 Ohio State, and #19 Michigan. The Scarlet Knights will also take on #4 Loyola (MD), #11 Syracuse, #13 Lehigh, and #14 Princeton. In addition, Rutgers will face two ranked teams in exhibition games in the preseason, #15 Albany and #22 Villanova.

The Scarlet Knights posted a combined 30-15 record the past three seasons under head coach Brian Brecht, but fell just short of the NCAA Tournament each time. The road to making it this season will certainly be a challenge once again based on teams scheduled that are listed in the preseason poll, but Rutgers has an exciting nucleus returning.

Rutgers welcomes back six starters from 2018, including goalkeeper Max Edelmann, and four of the top six returning scorers in Kieran Mullins, Casey Rose, Tommy Coyne, and Ryan Gallagher. In addition, 2016 Big Ten Freshman of the Year, Adam Charalambides, is set to return after missing the past two seasons due to injuries. Also added to the Rutgers attack this coming season is Detroit Mercy transfer Brennan Kamish, who scored 19 goals as a freshman and earned All-MAAC Second Team honors.
