Perhaps the quietest and most steadfast member of the class of 2019, Chris Conti stayed committed to Rutgers. The DePaul Catholic product committed to the Scarlet Knights in June. He signed Wednesday.

Conti excelled at linebacker and fullback at the high school level. He has also participated in ice hockey and lacrosse. This is very appropriate considering his toughness on the gridiron and notably negatively affected his recruiting opportunities. The physical style and fundamentally strong tackling makes Conti an appealing prospect for the Rutgers staff to help replenish the linebacking corps. He could end up at defensive end or fullback and surely will play special teams. He’s the type of player a team like Wisconsin seems to have tons of and a few develop into solid starters.

Position: LB (6’2”, 215 lbs.)

High School: DePaul Catholic

Hometown: Wayne, NJ

Most notable other offers: Army, Kent St, Western Michigan

Conti arrives at Rutgers to a linebacker room that loses three year starters Deonte Roberts and Trevor Morris. With the credit card fraud investigation not fully resolved, the Scarlet Knights are down to just four experienced linebackers so there is room for freshmen to surely compete on special teams and be pressed into duty on defense. If anyone is a difference maker right away, he could start.

Worst case: Devan Carter

Most likely: Eric Margolis

Best case: Kevin Snyder
