The subject of a hotly contested recruiting battle, Mohamed Toure verbally committed to the Rutgers Scarlet Knights on the eve of the season opener. He made it official Wednesday.

Toure the linebacker (not to be confused with the WR cousin from Newark with the same name) has good size and at times he looks like a man among boys delivering punishment to those who try to block him and engulfing ball carriers. Toure isn’t as tall or first step explosive as his cousin, former Scarlet Knight Kemoko Turay, but enters college with more football experience, including as a running back. Mohamed shows strong body control to hold his ground and halt the opponent in his tracks. His top end speed is pretty good for his build, too.
Position: LB (6’2”, 213 lbs.)
High School: Pleasantville
Hometown: Pleasantville, NJ
Most notable other offers: Wisconsin, Pitt, Maryland, Georgia Tech
Toure arrives at Rutgers to a linebacker room that loses three year starters Deonte Roberts and Trevor Morris. With the credit card fraud investigation not fully resolved, the Scarlet Knights are down to just four experienced linebackers so there is room for freshmen to surely compete on special teams and be pressed into duty on defense. If anyone is a difference maker right away, he could start.
Worst case: Brandon Russell
Most likely: Antonio Lowery
Best case: Steve Longa
