Northwestern at Rutgers

Opening Point Spread (according to VegasInsider): Northwestern -21

Gut reaction:

With such a large line posted against Maryland last week, it seems as if Las Vegas oddsmakers have finally caught on to what a complete dumpster fire the Rutgers football program is right now. That’s been reflected by the line here as they have to make the number so high that people actually consider putting money on Rutgers to cover.

Northwestern is historically a very fundamentally sound football team and they have a chance to beat anyone on any given Saturday. They narrowly dropped a 3 point home loss to Michigan and went on the road and were able to beat Michigan State by 10. The only chance Rutgers has of making this a competitive game is Northwestern completely overlooking the Scarlet Knights, and I think Pat Fitzgerald is too good of a coach for that to happen. This will be the usual drubbing in front of 7,000 fans.

If I Were a Betting Man:

I would need to have my head examined if I considered putting my money on Rutgers right now. This is obviously a huge spread but after how unimpressive Rutgers has looked against average at best competition, I can’t see how Northwestern doesn’t leave Piscataway on Saturday with a blowout victory. Take Northwestern -21.
