Rutgers played a tough game on Friday night against an elite offense and defense from #8 Washington. However, they will face an opponent that’s unranked but one they must respect with Eastern Michigan. EMU went to their first bowl game in 2016 since 1987 at the Bahamas Bowl. Rutgers might be favored by Las Vegas but they shouldn't tread lightly with EMU.
(Jeremiah Harris 6’5 , 255lbs Junior)
A key player that Rutgers must focus on is RS-Junior defensive linemen Jeremiah Harris. He was named First Team Preseason All-MAC Selection for EMU and can be a terror on defense with his tenacity and pursuit of the football. In 2016, Harris accumulated 73 tackles (24 solo, 49 assist), 11 TFLs. 6 sacks and one interception. Rutgers’ offensive line needs to be vigilant with Harris, as he is a force to be reckoned with. In last week’s 24-7 victory over Charlotte, Harris led the Eagles with 9 tackles, with 1.5 tackles resulting in a loss.
How to Stop Jeremiah Harris
Rutgers offensive line did a good job against #8 Washington with the run game. Gus Edwards gained 74 yards on 24 carries, giving Rutgers a legitimate run threat on offense and the o-line gave Kyle Bolin solid protection. If the offensive line can continue to establish the run game and push EMU’s defensive line against their will, Harris will be neutralized. Tariq Cole is a great left tackle and I think the matchup will favor Cole.
