Rutgers football secured its first commit of the 2019 class, as Barringer quarterback Zamar Wise has pledged to the Scarlet Knights per Todderick Hunt of nj.com.
Wise brought interest to the Barringer program, keeping athletes home at the Newark public school, and hopes to do the same for New Jersey at RU as per nj.com. Watching his highlights, he is very elusive running once he breaks through the line. When throwing the ball to his primary receiver he shows tremendous accuracy, especially deep down the sideline. By hitting receivers in stride 30 or even 40 yards downfield, it opens up quick hitters, especially slants.
As Ash continues to rebuild the roster, adding as many dual threat quarterbacks as possible has been a top priority. The 2018 class includes two current verbal commits from California, Jalen Chatman and Sean Chambers. Chambers will be the subject of a lengthy OTB post in the coming days.
According to 247 Sports, Wise has seven offers thus far including Maryland, Miami (FL), Missouri, Syracuse, Temple, and UCF. He has drawn interest from Alabama, Clemson, and Ohio State as well as virtually every power 5 program on the eastern seaboard. For the 2019 class, he is ranked as the 11th best dual threat in the country and New Jersey’s 9th best prospect overall. He is the only member of the top 10 currently committed anywhere. The “Fence the Garden” motto has hit some speed bumps, but securing a top 2019 N.J. prospect is exactly the domino needed to accelerate once again.
Rutgers now has their first verbal commit of 2019 to go along with the 20 recruits that are currently committed to their 2018 class, which 247 Sports ranks today as 43rd nationally. Here are Zamar's sophomore season highlights:
