With kickoff not until 7:30 ET tonight, there is plenty to get caught up on ahead of #11 Ohio State v. Rutgers. Let’s hope the Scarlet Knights can put together their best effort of the season against the deep and talented Buckeyes. Rutgers was able to reduce their margin of defeat against the Washington Huskies from 35 points in 2016 to 16 points in the season opener over four weeks ago. After a 58 point, shutout loss to Ohio State last season, there is no doubt a better showing tonight is sorely needed.

Of course, the Rutgers defense will be key in slowing down the potent offense of Ohio State. In fact, they are the best chance for this team to show progress against all of the elite Big Ten East teams Rutgers will face this season. The loss of it’s top player in cornerback Blessuan Austin due to a season ending injury is a major blow, which Chris Ash discussed earlier this week.

If the Rutgers defense is able to have success tonight, they’ll need to contain the Buckeyes star quarterback, J.T. Barrett, who has posted dominate performances against them in recent years.

Another area that needs to show improvement tonight is special teams play. We reviewed last week’s performance and what they need to do tonight here.

While the offense has struggled mightily, there is plenty to watch for in this game, most notably the expected playing time for true freshman quarterback Johnathan Lewis. We discuss him and other things to watch for in tonight’s game here.

Speaking of Ohio State, we spoke with our friends at Land Grant Holy Land about the current state of their football team here.

In our game preview, we highlight which players on Ohio State are key to their success and what Rutgers needs to do to stay competitive in this contest.

Our staff isn’t feeling optimistic, but we discuss several things that we are hoping for in tonight’s game in our round table prediction post.

Tonight also marks the return of former head coach Greg Schiano, who is the current defensive coordinator for Ohio State. We covered Ash’s and Schiano’s thoughts on his return, which has been a polarizing subject among fans and even our own staff, so read the comments in the article for sure.

We previewed the entire slate of Big Ten football action and picks against the spread here.

If you are going to the game tonight, be safe, have a great time and be optimistic that Rutgers shows progress on the field tonight. We’ll be back with a game thread closer to kickoff.
