3-star point guard and current Rutgers basketball commit from the class of 2018, Mac McClung made SportsCenter’s Top 10 plays of the day on Tuesday for a ridiculous dunk during a recent offseason workout. Here is the clip below.
As amazing as the spin move and finish were in this video, the most astonishing part to me is that no one reacted to it like it was special. This is because those players see McClung make the impossible a reality all the time. He is a supreme athlete and he is quickly becoming known as a human highlight reel.
The power of social media is truly something. This clip of McClung has gone viral, as have some other of his previous dunks over the past year. He is quickly following the footsteps of current Rutgers point guard Corey Sanders, who was internet famous for his many highlights on YouTube before even playing college basketball.
Here is another recent dunk from McClung that demonstrates his insane body control and coordination. A no look finish with style, no less.

The best part of all of this is that McClung isn’t just a dunking machine. The kid can play and has the chance to turn out to be a steal for Rutgers head coach Steve Pikiell on the recruiting trail. In reviewing where the program is at currently, as Pikiell enters his second season, I harped on how important it is that he finally found his point guard of the future. McClung is a bit raw, but has the potential to be a great player for Rutgers basketball. Give him time to develop under Pikiell and assistant Brandin Knight and the sky is the limit for McClung. Of course, it’s possible he flies above the clouds at some point too! The prospect of him in scarlet threads beginning in the 2018-2019 season is just one of many reasons Rutgers basketball fans should be excited about the future.
For more highlights on McClung, here is a montage of his top ten dunks during his junior season of high school, as well as a clip of him making seven three-pointers in a game last year, followed by a mix of top plays from the 2016-2017 season. If that isn’t enough, check out his hudl page, where there are so many more highlight videos of McClung. Dunk on, Mac McClung.
