It’s Gameday people! While facing a top ten team in Washington is a daunting challenge, this is a day that should still be filled with excitement. This is the official start of year two of the Chris Ash era and is highlighted by major roster turnover and an infusion of promising, new talent. While Rutgers enters this game as a four touchdown underdog, the long view is needed. Will this team show they have improved and compete against the reigning PAC-12 champs? Can they demonstrate an ability to move the ball and score against likely one of the best defenses in the country? Will special teams play, a once proud area for fans to boast about, show a return in becoming a strong unit that the program previously had for a decade? How will the freshman perform? There are a lot of questions and while they won’t be completely answered tonight, it is our first chance to see the 2017 Rutgers football team in action. Oh, and of course, the much anticipated return of Janarion Grant! After a long wait from a difficult campaign last year, let’s hope for progress this season and that it begins tonight.
In an effort to help get you caught up on all of the coverage from the past week plus, here are some important links on tonight’s game.

Head coach Chris Ash had a lot to say about the season opener earlier this week, which we covered key takeaways from here.
Here is our Q&A with UW Dawg Pound, as well as the one from their site as well.
For a look at the key players for Washington and what Rutgers must do to make this a battle, read our game preview here.
Perhaps the most important player on the Huskies roster is star quarterback Jake Browning, who we profiled in more detail here. One key development has been the suspension of preseason All-American, Azeem Victor, one of two players who will sit out tonight’s game for Washington.
Speaking of suspensions, last season’s leading receiver, Jawuan Harris, is also out for tonight’s game, but the good news is that the top pass rusher on the Rutgers defense, Kemoko Turay, has been medically cleared to play.
Our staff made their picks for tonight’s game here. Perhaps you could sum them up as optimistic, but not crazy.
Although a few Big Ten teams started their seasons last night, here is our handicapping preview of all of the conference action for the rest of the weekend. Also, our preseason Big Ten power rankings can be viewed here.
