#12 Rutgers Men's Lacrosse Tops #3 Buckeyes in Senior Day OT Thriller

NCAA Football: Indiana at Rutgers Ed Mulholland-USA TODAY Sports

In a must win game, the #12 Rutgers Scarlet Knights upset the #3 Ohio State Buckeyes 12-11 in overtime. This was the Scarlet Knights highest win over a ranked opponent since 2003 when they defeated #3 UMass. The win pushes the Scarlet Knights to 10-4 on the season and unofficially locks up a spot in the NCAA tournament for the Knights.

Kieran Mullins completed his hat trick two minutes into overtime to send Piscataway into pandemonium.

Besides Mullins, the midfielders played a huge part on the day as middies Jeff George, Casey Rose, and Christian Mazzone combined for 10 points. Connor Murphy added four points of his own and Jules Heningburg added three as well.

Joe Francisco had a much better game this week as he was able to neutralize Buckeye Face-Off man Jake Withers, one of the top Face-Off men in the country.

Max Edelmann finished with 9 saves on the day, and the defense as a unit played much better. Alex Bronzo earned his first career assist and Chris Groel and Michael Rexrode each caused a turnover.

The Scarlet Knights looked like a completely different team from the one that faced Penn State last weekend as they played with much more enthusiasm and energy.

This game completes the Scarlet Knights regular season and they will finish in 5th place in the Big Ten. The Scarlet Knights will have to wait until next Sunday (5/7) to see if they qualified for the NCAA Tournament.

Note: today was Senior Day for the Scarlet Knights. Eight seniors were honored for their contributions to the program. The eight seniors were: Jeff George, Chris Groel, Connor Murphy, Patrick McCabe, Charlie Nicklaus, Collin Scarpello, Christopher Peters and Alex Hatzopoulos.
