The final Monday night #RB1GBuild number is....
— Jon Newman (@jonnew) April 11, 2017
$182,000!!!
The final campaign number will come in AM when online donations come in. pic.twitter.com/gLB2bsyq2F
That is an impressive number. It may not be the $200,000—yet... but it is impressive.
Remember, Rutgers has never been known as a school that donates to its athletics programs, leading to story after story about deficits. But this is a sign things are changing. The narrative is changing, which will lead to better stories, better recruits and better wins.
Big thanks to the Jeff and Amy Towers and Ron and Joanna Garruti who will be matching these gifts and will match even if Rutgers doesn’t make the 200,000 goal. A great, fun experience for Rutgers fans.
The fandom is stepping up, and maybe a brighter future awaits. Check back here for another update tomorrow.
UPDATE:
Rutgers fans, you did it! And here’s the final number from the man himself on Twitter!
So here are the numbers. 245 new donors contributed $200,144.88 to support @RUAthletics and #RB1GBUILD
— Pat Hobbs (@PatHobbsRU) April 11, 2017
That means Rutgers raised over $400,000 with the wonderful matching powers of the Garrutis and Towers.
Per Jon Newman, who spearheaded the initiative, "From what I understand 245 new donors contributed just over $200,000 and another group of existing donors sent in $25,000 or so. So that plus the Towers- Garutti match adds up to more than $425.000 in less than 30 hours."
Yay, Rutgers.
