Rutgers Head Coach Chris Ash and his new and improved coaching staff have offered over 40 high school prospects in the class of 2018 from around the East Coast and Midwest recently. Keep in mind that any verbal commitments being made are non-binding and the top head coaches are the one’s with the ability to flip players late in the recruiting process. While many local players have been offered, here is a sneak peek at two dual-threat QB’s and four running backs that Rutgers has offered scholarships to outside of the area and hope to reel in soon.

Chase Wolf : 2018 - 3 Star Dual-Threat QB : 6-2 198 - St. Xavier HS Cincinnati Ohio

A very athletic play maker with unconventional throw mechanics and poor footwork. Has sufficient arm strength that can be enhanced with proper mechanics and top notch collegiate coaching. Wolf has the look of a winner on the gridiron and currently holds offers from Wisconsin, Boston College, Pittsburgh and Iowa State among others.

Brennan Armstrong : 2018 - 3 Star Dual-Threat QB : 6 - 2 205 - Shelby Ohio

A rangy southpaw who stands tall in the pocket and can really spin the pigskin. Armstrong has the feet to evade the rush but will not be much of a threat running the ball at the next level as you can see below in his highlight film. The Knights have to work hard to keep this kid away from the University Of Minnesota, but perhaps RU’s OC has a trump card up his sleeve.

Jaelen Gill : 2018 - 4 Star Running Back : 6 - 1 180 - South High Westerville Ohio

The number one rated running back in the Buckeye State is a top target for Urban Meyer. The one cut down hill runner is very effective with his north-south running style and has the speed to run away when he hits the second level as evidenced by his 4.4 forty time. Gill’s junior season was cut very short due to an ankle injury in game two but has shown the ability to catch the ball well as a sophomore. Click here for various highlights.

Gino Appleberry : 2018 - 3 Star Running Back : 5 - 8 180 - Creekside High Fairburn Georgia

Rutgers is competing with Fresno State, Chattanooga, Alabama Birmingham and Mercer for the services of the 75th rated running back in the country and 110th overall in the Peach State. Appleberry owns 4.5 forty speed and may just be the sleeper of the early recruiting season.

Christian Turner : 2018 - 3 Star Running Back : 5 - 10 190 - Buford High Georgia

Turner has been offered scholarships by twenty schools in the power five conferences as well as Notre Dame. Rutgers will have to out recruit the likes of Michigan, Miami, Nebraska, Tennessee and Louisville to name a few. The smooth shifting runner has the ability to lower his pad level and deliver a blow to would be tacklers.

Jahmir Smith : 2018 - 3 Star Running Back : 6 - 1 198 - Lee High Sanford North Carolina

Wisconsin, Northwestern, Vanderbilt and Princeton are among eleven schools in contention with Rutgers for the junior who eclipsed the 2,000 yard mark and found the end zone 40 times to go along with his 4.4 GPA. The stocky, well built Smith can both squat and dead lift 500 pounds. He is a powerful runner who runs with a low center of gravity as you can see here.
