As mentioned in our free agency updates and contract recap, anyone in the NFL can be cut at any time. As a result, trades are very uncommon other than around the draft so it came as much of a surprise when the news broke former Scarlet Knight star offensive tackle Jeremy Zuttah had been dealt to the San Francisco 49ers along with some draft pick swapping. They took advantage of a team in Baltimore who is over the salary cap and in desperate need of shedding contracts even if it is at a loss of talent.

Jeremy, an Edison native, is signed through 2018 and the rebuilding 49ers who cleaned house completely this time have been super active adding talent to their roster. Our friends at Niners Nation recapped their assessment of the impact of this acquisition on their favorite club. As a resident of San Francisco, it was pretty obvious the Red and Gold needed help and stability they haven’t had since Captain Khaki had just begun his tenure.
The J. P. Stevens product Zuttah has played 131 games with 117 starts in his nine year NFL career for Tampa Bay and Baltimore after being selected in the 3rd round of the 2008 draft. Jeremy has been a rock and new coach Kyle Shanahan has a track record of building an offensive line around a veteran center. It worked out pretty well last season (until the 4th quarter of the Big Game anyway).
Welcome to the Bay Area! At least your new city is dog friendly!
