Bordner announced his commitment on December 14th, choosing Rutgers University over other offers from schools such as West Virginia, Navy, and Kentucky.
Brendan Bordner is a consensus 3-star recruit and the highest ranked defensive lineman Rutgers signed in the 2017 class, according to 247Sports.
The lone commit from the state of Ohio has great size at 6-foot-5, 240 pounds and explodes off the ball from his defensive end position. His physicality shows from the second the ball is snapped to when the opposing quarterback hits the turf.
While he may not be the fastest defensive end on the field, he makes up for it with tenacity and a high motor. Having been recruited by several service academies and ivy league schools, the early enrollee has great football intelligence on the football field and does a nice job of reading and reacting against run or pass blocking.
Once he adds some more muscle to his frame and can improve his first step/overall speed, Bordner has the potential to be a very high upside athlete on the defensive line.
Freshman Impact Index: The frame is definitely there to grow into and compete right away, and because of his early enrollee status, I do not think he will redshirt. I can see Bordner make an impact during his first year on camps as a mid-game, spark-plug edge rusher in sub packages. His high energy pass rushing can be effective as opposing offensive lines wear down.
