Fogg announced his commitment on June 26th, choosing Rutgers over his other offers from schools such as Clemson, Michigan State, and Louisville.
Fogg, a consensus 4-star recruit, is the highest rated defensive prospect of the 2017 class. While Fogg played a good amount of middle linebacker in high school, the combination of Fogg’s plus size, physicality, and play-making ability out in space projects him best as an outside linebacker in Rutgers’ base 4-3 defense.
Standing at 6’2”, 215 pounds, Fogg could stand to add some weight to his frame, which is impressive considering the way he fought through any would-be blockers with ease in high school.
A look at Fogg’s film reveals a physical linebacker who could play the pass as well as he played the run. When in zone, Fogg showed an outstanding tendency to read the quarterback’s eyes and make a play on the ball. In man, the future Scarlet Knight would blow up screens before they ever had a chance to develop. Fogg’s play-making ability will be exciting to watch once he cracks the starting lineup over the next four years.
Freshman Impact Index: Linebacker, as a whole, is a position filled with promising young athletes for Rutgers University. If he can bulk up while maintaining his speed, it would not surprise me to see Fogg in the mix for a position on the two-deep depth chart. This could be equal parts Fogg’s progress as well as the play of the other linebackers he is competing with. Either way, the future is bright.
