One of the biggest commits of Rutgers’ 2018 class — literally and figuratively — is officially a Scarlet Knight. South Carolina OL Raiqwon O’Neal signed his National Letter of Intent Wednesday morning.
O’Neal committed to Chris Ash and Rutgers back in mid-August, and while he never decommitted from the program, the truth is the Scarlet Knights had to work to keep their top offensive line commit.
O’Neal received an offer from Florida a month after his Rutgers pledge and continued to be recruited by home state school South Carolina for much of his senior season. O’Neal never officially visited either school, but he did take stops at Maryland and Indiana, where he saw the Hoosiers decimate Rutgers in a 41-0 drubbing on an ugly day in Bloomington.
But his final official visit was to Piscataway, a trip which solidified his commitment to the Scarlet Knights. A visit to his school from Ash and offensive line coach AJ Blazek less than a week later further showed the Scarlet Knights’ commitment to the Conway, South Carolina, native.
O’Neal comes in with great size already at 6-foot-5, 270 pounds, according to his 247 Sports player profile. After likely redshirting his first season on the Banks — something which most offensive lineman do — he projects to compete for either tackle spot on the line.
