In a major surprise on Friday, class of 2018 Rutgers pledge Mac McClung announced he was decommitting from the program.

McClung was just on campus last weekend for the start of practice and the MidKnight Madness event. He was joined by fellow commits, 4-star guard Montez Mathis, and 3-star wing, Ron Harper Jr. The news of McClung having a change of heart is surprising. However, he has risen to internet fame this summer with his highlight reel dunks and perhaps he is starting to receive more interest from other high major programs than before. It is a blow for the staff to lose their point guard of the future.
Even so, Rutgers still has a solid 2018 class with Mathis and Harper, who both appear firm in their commitments. Mathis recently told reporters that he was planning to sign in the early period this fall. There is now one remaining open spot at the moment for Rutgers with the 2018 class.
