Last Friday, it was announced that the doubleheader in wrestling and football against Maryland on November 4th had been moved from Yankee Stadium to High Point Solutions Stadium in Piscataway. On Wednesday afternoon, Rutgers announced both contests will be a "blackout", meaning the Scarlet Knights will wear alternative black uniforms and fans are encouraged to do so as well.

The wrestling match is slated for noon and is the season opener for the grappling Goodale's. The football game is set to kickoff at 3:30 p.m. and will be broadcast live on the Big Ten Network. The blackout theme for football has become an annual occasion in recent years. We previewed the black uniform for Rutgers football back in August here. Now that the game shifted back to campus, it made perfect sense to declare the Maryland game a blackout, as the uniform was already designated for the game.

After Chris Ash's team has won back to back Big Ten games for the first time since joining the conference, the Maryland matchup takes on added importance. Rutgers is currently 2-2 in league play, while the Terps are 1-3, while Indiana sits at 0-4. A win at home on November 4th against Maryland and Rutgers is almost guaranteed of avoiding a last place finish in the East division for the first time since 2014. Playing in front of the home faithful instead of a converted baseball field at Yankee Stadium certainly helps. Let's hope the blackout theme does as well!
