Rutgers football suffered their third decommitment in the class of 2018 this fall, as 3-star athlete Amad Anderson tweeted this morning that he was re-opening his recruitment.

Anderson is ranked the 4th best prospect in the state of New York, where Rutgers has six other recruits ranked in the top seventeen currently committed to their 2018 class. This is certainly a big loss for the Rutgers staff, as Anderson was one of the top prospects and had one of the highest ceilings in the class. He is a dynamic playmaker.
In terms of his recruitment now, Anderson has a dozen offers per 247 Sports, including Wisconsin, Maryland, Purdue, N.C. State, Virginia, Syracuse, Boston College and Wake Forest. Ironically, the recruiting service now lists this week’s opponent, Purdue, as being in the lead, as Anderson has scheduled a visit to the Indiana school for the first weekend of November.
As far as Rutgers, Anderson had committed in August and visited in September, but obviously he had a change of heart. It seems doubtful at this point that Anderson is still in play for Rutgers.
After Anderson’s decomittment, 247 Sports has dropped Rutgers 2018 recruiting class to 13th in the Big Ten and 56th overall. Our of the 18 current commits, 17 are rated as 3-star prospects. Obviously, the coaching staff needs to finish strong in this cycle to ensure that another solid group of talent will join the program next year after landing the highest rated class in some time with the 2017 class. Rutgers did pick up a commitment last week from 3-star athlete Christian Izien, also from New York, but not rated as highly as Anderson. Rutgers can certainly make a big statement on the field this weekend with a win over Purdue.
