Rutgers Football Recruiting: Commits Week in Review

A look at how future Knights fared in this week’s games

NCAA Football: Morgan State at Rutgers Noah K. Murray-USA TODAY Sports

As we watch the Scarlet Knights week in and week out, we will continue to check in on the Knights of the future to track their success on the high school gridiron. The highlighted Class of 2018 commits will be listed by ranking according to 247Sports.

Amad Anderson - 3* Athlete, Curtis (NY)

Anderson made a grand return to the end zone this past weekend, hauling in TD passes of 68 yards and 36 yards. His 113 receiving yards were a game high, while he chipped in three carries for 39 yards as well.

Isaih Pacheco - 3* Running Back, Vineland (NJ)

While being recruited as a running back, Pacheco continues to play quarterback for Vineland, currently the #9 ranked team in New Jersey. While his passing stats were more than enough to pick up a 55-21 victory (7-12 for 52 yards and a touchdown), his running ability is what Rutgers fans will keep an eye on. Pacheco carried the ball 13 times for for 103 yards and three touchdowns, showing a nose for the end zone and great finishing ability from inside the red zone.

Jalen Chatman - 3* Dual-Threat Quarterback, Narbonne (CA)

Jalen Chatman was business as usual, leading his team to a huge 51-0 victory over Banning (CA) this past weekend. Despite the blowout leading to a run-heavy offense, Chatman still managed to complete 24 of 35 passes for 291 yards and a touchdown. The athletic signal-caller showed poise as a passer, completing passes to seven different receivers throughout the game.

Stevie Scott - 3* Running Back, Christian Brothers Academy (NY)

While Scott continues to be sidelined with a foot injury, he had something to cheer for this weekend, watching his future home pick up a big win.

Seeing and reading commits express their excitement towards joining the Rutgers Football family is always promising, especially coming on the heels of a visit.

Kessawn Abraham & Christian Izien - 3* Athletes, Erasmus Hall (NY)

Now that Izien has committed to Rutgers, these two teammates will often be compared amongst the 2018 pledges. In their 39-6 win over Abraham Lincoln this past weekend, neither athletes had stat lines that jumped off the page - and that’s okay. Abraham, a cornerback, and Izien, a safety, are primarily defensive players who are often avoided by opposing quarterbacks. While they combined for three touches on offense and four tackles on defense, the future Knights were part of a secondary that only allowed eight completions on the day. Izien still showed his play-making ability, racking up 110 punt return yards in four chances.

Jayden McDonald - 3* Outside Linebacker, North Gwinnett (GA)

McDonald showed his exceptional explosiveness this past weekend, picking up a sack in a 52-0 win over Duluth.

Zamir Mickens - 3* Safety, St. Peters Prep (NJ)

While his team struggled in a 41-14 loss to Bergen Catholic, Mickens stuffed the stat sheet on defense. The safety stepped up to make 10 tackles, including a tackle for a loss, and a forced fumble. Mickens also had one carry for 10 yards on offense.

Travon King - 3* Wide Receiver, Woodrow Wilson (NJ)

King continues to show off his two-way ability this season, contributing on both sides of the ball in a 23-16 loss to Willingboro this past weekend. On offense, King hauled in a game-high six passes from his tight end position for 60 yards. On defense, the six-foot-four defensive end wrecked havoc, picking up two sacks on the day to go along with five tackles.

Be sure to check back in next week to see which future Scarlet Knights are dominating throughout their senior campaign!
