Rutgers football received good news on the recruiting trail today, as 3-star athlete Christian Izien committed to the program.
The 5’10”, 180 pound athlete from Erasmus Hall in Brooklyn, New York is the 19th commit for Rutgers in the 2018 class. Izien is projected to play defensive back in college. As we’ve already seen this season, Rutgers needs to add talent and depth to the secondary in a big way.
He joins teammate Kessawn Abraham, who committed to the program last June and is ranked the 15th best player in New York state. Izien is ranked 16th and now Rutgers has seven committments among the top 20 players in the Empire state, which is considered to have an above average class this recruiting cycle.
Izien held offers from Rutgers, Florida Atlantic, Fordham and Sacred Heart, according to 247 Sports. They also report that Izien received interest from Virginia Tech, Boston College, UConn, Temple, Kent State, Toledo and a slew of FCS schools.
Rutgers now has 18 commits in the 2018 class that are rated as 3-star recruits, including Izien. The current class is now ranked 48th in the country and 11th in the Big Ten in the 247 Sports composite rankings. The staff needs to continue to work hard through national signing day to close out the 2018 class strong and ensure they add a high potential group to upgrade the talent level of the program for a second consecutive cycle.
