Report: Rutgers Lands JUCO Point Guard Souf Mensah

The kid from Iowa is Rutgers’ 2nd 2017 Commitment

Back in the fall, Steve Pikiell relentlessly pursued point guard Jose Alvarado and guard Geo Baker. While he landed Baker, he swung and missed on Alvarado.

That didn’t mean Pikiell was done. According to a report from Adam Zagoria, Rutgers has landed JUCO point guard Souf Mensah. Mensah plays for Marshalltown Community College in Iowa and weighs in at 210 pounds. He’s 6’2 and will eligible for the 2017-18 season.

Landing another point guard would allow both Nigel Johnson and Corey Sanders to play the scoring guard role and take pressure off of all three to bring the ball up the court.

Not much is known about Mensah via a quick internet search, but he did talk to Zagoria.

This is a big get for Pikiell, who now has a full recruiting class for 2017, barring anyone leaving. He also has a commitment from big man Mamadou Doucoure for the 2018 class.

The commitment comes on the heels of a Rutgers loss to Michigan State on the road.

More information as it comes.
