The search continues for the first road victory in Big Ten play for the Rutgers basketball program. Is tonight the night? To be honest, it’s possible but unlikely. Maryland is sitting atop the conference standings and have won four games in a row, including their last home game against Indiana. However, the status of their leading scorer, Melo Trimble, remains unclear after he missed practice yesterday due to being sick. Even if he does play, it’s likely he will be less than 100%.
Update:
Melo Trimble is warming up and expected to play tonight. Dion Wiley and Michal Cekovsky also dressed and warming up.

Even so, the most important thing is that Rutgers plays as a team and gives great effort for 40 minutes. They need to be smart on offense and attack the rim, while bringing intensity and focus on the defensive end. If they can do that, they’ll be competitive in this game. But remember, Melo had a tight hamstring in last season’s meeting and barely played, yet Maryland still won the game by 25 points. Rutgers needs to worry about Rutgers and what they can control.
No matter what the final result is tonight, it’s important that this team does continue to make progress after Saturday’s break through win over Nebraska. There is no pressure for them to beat the Terps, but if they can play well and keep things close, it would be an encouraging effort for this team. Also, Nebraska is the only the Big Ten team to beat Maryland this season, so Rutgers will have confidence entering this game. How they execute in this game in a relatively short turnaround will be the real story.
