Know thy enemy, Rutgers: Why they love Howard
The Tale of the Tape
Rutgers needs this game to rebound from the thrashing they received against Washington. They will look to run their base offense and won’t have to try anything fancy. Expect a lot of zone-reads and basic passing plays to try to get all of the receivers and tight ends involved. If Rutgers plays hard in the first quarter, they can turn the rest of the game pretty much into a practice.
How Rutgers wins
Rutgers wins this game by playing their game and not being too fancy. As long as they run the ball consistently and don’t make any mistakes, they should be fine.
How Howard wins
Laviano goes down. Gio goes down. Allen goes down. Rettig goes down. Oden goes down. Jabu Lovelace is summoned from the heavens to run the wild knight offense but it fails miserably because it never works.
What Rutgers has going for them
Rutgers comes into this game with a few advantages that will help them win.
- They are pissed off about their blowout loss to Washington
- They are confident they can dominate this game and will have a different mindset
- It is the first home game of the #AshEra
Official Prediction
Let’s be honest, regardless of losing to Washington being nearly a given, Chris Ash and his team are pissed off. These players worked harder than they ever have this offseason and are no doubt angry with how they played. They get to take out their anger on poor Howard, who will have the ball run straight down their throats for 4 quarters. Justin Goodwin and Josh Hicks will get 100 yards apiece, while Robert Martin rests himself in a game he is not needed for. Chris Laviano will be able to run the offense smoothly and will not let off the gas pedal. We should get to Gio Rescigno and get to see how he runs as well. I’m taking the Scarlet Knights big in this one: Rutgers 63 Howard 3
