In news that Rutgers fans spent the past 24 hours wishing wouldn’t happen, Janarion Grant and Quanzell Lambert have injuries that will force them to miss the season.
BREAKING: Sources say #Rutgers stars Janarion Grant, Quanzell Lambert both have season-ending injuries. https://t.co/y1jJiumi3f #AshEra #B1G

Grant, of course, is Rutgers best offensive and special teams weapon, and injured his right ankle at the tail end of an electrifying 76 yard play. He’s been the play Chris Ash and Drew Mehringer have been relying on to help the team score points. Without Grant, Andre Patton and the other receivers will have to step up. Also, this likely takes away the threat of scoring on punt and kickoff returns each game. Rutgers does not have another offensive player like Grant.
And, even worse, Dunleavy’s article says Grant will likely miss the cut off for a medical redshirt window.
Lambert’s appeared to injure his knee late in the game. The redshirt senior is a defensive leader for Ash’s first year squad. The defensive end had helped anchor the defense with Darius Hamilton. With Hamilton unlikely to get his right hand man back, Myles Nash will have to step up.
Rutgers football sits at 2-2 just as the Big Ten gauntlet is beginning. This makes the climb even tougher for Ash and company.
