Chris Ash has been consistently candid in addressing his thoughts on the team throughout training camp and after games this season. Today was no different and he pulled no punches in commenting on his disappointment in the loss to Iowa. He expressed that while there were some positives, he doesn’t believe in moral victories.
He addressed the wasted timeouts due to the offense lining up in wrong formations, and a substitution issue on defense. Ash stressed the need to clean those types of mistakes.
Ash did say he is very encouraged overall by the play of Rutgers and emphasized the improvement since Week 1 against Washington.
In regards to the play of Chris Laviano, Ash cited improvement since the beginning of the season but was most upset with a sack he took early in the game that knocked Rutgers out of field position.
At this time, there are no injury updates on Janarion Grant and Quanzell Lambert, both who were carted off in the loss.
It is certainly refreshing to have a coach who tells it like it is. I understand not everyone was happy with the playcalling today, but I personally think the positives this coaching staff has shown so far this season signals a bright future. Here is Ash’s full press conference.
